<p>The vehicle safety belt release device acts to free the person secured by the belt after an accident has taken place. The device has a short plate (7) secured to one part of the seat belt, e.g. the lap portion, and another plate (6) secured to the other part. Both plates incorporate hooked portions (6d, 7b) which are normally interlocked. These portions are held flat and interlocked by a hollow slider (8), and are also held interlocked by a magnetic plate (6) on the longer plate (6). In the event of an accident, the slider can be pulled away from the joint by a short strap (10) so that the hooked party can be separated to release the occupant.</p> |
