One of the gear wheels which interact with the toothed rim of the ribbon spool carrier is constantly engaged with a common drive axle via a directional lock. The cable which is used to swivel the printing head away from the platen is attached by its free end on a swivel lever rolling on an eccentric cam disc of a half-turning coupling. This is engaged via a further directional lock with a common drive axle. Both directional locks lock in opposed directions and the common drive is reversably driven by a single motor which controls the ink ribbon transport and the swivelling of the head.
