The axially aligned ball and socket joint may be used on vehicle steering linkages. The joint comprises a hollow round section housing (1) contg. a fixed spherical shell bearing (2) and the spherical pivot (5). The bore of the casing and the external faces of the shell have reciprocal contours whereby they interlock with one another. The shell (2) is made from a durable elastic synthetic material and has continuous meridian-orientated slits (4) in the concave seating faces. The external faces of the shell present an axial projection with a circumferential groove (7). The internal faces of the casing (1) present a circumferential rib (6) which engages the groove (7) of the shell (2). The rib may be partially (6) penetrate the slit zone and have a projection related to the durability of the material constituting the shell (2). The open end of the shell may have a flange (8) of which the external dia. corresponds to that of the casing (1) and the latter (1) may terminate in a circumferential groove (9) locating deformable bellows type sealing skirt (10). |
