The process comprises lubricant base preparation. To increase performance, the preparation solvent is a C3+ ketone or alcohol. Pref. the solvent is a mixture of the said ketones and/or alcohols, with or without addition of propanone, aldehydes, amines, potassium hydroxides, etc. Thus, solvent N-butanol with 1-3 g/l of potassium hydroxide is applied in the solvent:oil weight ratio range 3:1 to 5:1 at 15-25 degs.C.
