Clamp support for shrink wrap film during automatic wrapping - to protect tear tape joints from premature stress during short cycle wrapping

An ancillary clamping system is used for gripping thermoplastic film passing through machinery for wrapping a succession of articles in heat-shrinkable thermoplastic film which is fitted with a tear strip tape welded along the leading edge of each portion of wrapping film. The clamp grips the film between the weld zone for attaching the tear tape and the curtain zone into which the article to be packed is pushed, to prevent the tension generated during wrapping from being applied to the freshly made weld. This speeds up article throughput by allowing articles to be introduced without waiting for the tape weld to chill sufficiently to tolerate the wrapping tension.
