Hard-back book binding method - with collated folded sheets cut to form flat spring to which flowable adhesive is applied for retaining cover

A number of sheets or signatures are printed, folded and then collated so that the folded edges form a folded spine with the page numbers running in a continuous sequence. The folded spine is then cut in order to separate the edges of the individual printed sheets to form a flat cut spine surface. An adhesive is then applied on to the spine surface and between the border edges of adjoining sheets lying along the spine surface. A paper cover of a heavier base material than that of the printed sheet signatures and of a size large enough to cover both sides of the signatures as well as the spine is then pressed against the adhesive.
