Steel tubes made by the spiral winding and seam welding of steel strip have a tendency to form ridges along the line of the weld. This effect can be avoided by first curving the edges of the steel strip. The edges of the strip are curved by passing the strip between an upper and two lower rollers. The position of the upper roller can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. The lower roller can be adjusted only horizontally whilst the other lower roller can be adjusted horizontally and the angle of inclination of its axis can also be adjusted.
