<p>The base of a shock absorbant mat is made from intersecting arrays of strips of semi rigid material to provide a flat base incorporating square pockets sized to suitably modify the resilience of the layers of elastic and/or fibrous material which cover the base. Used for mfr of mats for gymnastics, martial arts, padded cells, etc. esp. where a smooth even surface and response are required. The size and spacing of the strips is readily variable to adjust the dynamic characteristics of the mat. The interfaces between the individual strips better suppress undesirable reflective resonance than equivalent monolithic structures.</p> |
