The bicycle lighting circuit has the bulb (4) in parallel with an accumulator (8) and with the current flow controlled by a relay (5) to connect the bulb either to the generator (1) or to the accumulator. The relay is operated by the generator output voltage and ensures that there is sufficient lighting when the machine is stopped at road junctions. The generator can be a simple hub driven alternator with the output passed through a bridge rectifier (2). A smoothing capacitor (3) completes the layout.
