The refuse incinerator has means for separating inert materials such as iron and rocks and also glass. It also separates especially the plastics materials especially PVC. The refuse moisture content is adjusted to above thirty percent relative to the dry substance content. This removes all cellulose components and this cellulose material is readily dried and disintegrated. The residue is incinerated in separate plants designed for special purposes. Alternatively the residue can be deposited. Clarified sludge can be added to the refuse for adjusting the moisture content.
