Packing elements for the filling of biological treatment towers are produced from plastics by injection moulding, pref. from polyolefin polymers. They have many thin wavy walls, pref. with a satinised surface, which form groups of conical funnels from the spherical outside towards a spherical cavity in the centre. Such elements are very light in weight, yet they are strong enough to withstand the pressure in a reaction tower. The presence of 96% cavities results in an excellent retention capacity for gases. The alternating acceleration and deceleration in the conical funnels achieves a good mixing efficiency.
|
