Optic fibre protection system - freely supports fibre inside space centre of bundle of protective cables

The protective system for an optic fibre or fibre bundle for optical transmission, uses arcuate secton protective cables arranged to form a gap between them, holding the fibre loosely. They protec the fibre from tensile and compressive forces and have suitable linear, thermal and expansion properties. The chamber may bf formed in the centre of three or four cables, touching tangentially. The protective cables may be enclosed by an adherent filling material which does not penetrate the central gap, or may be enclosed by an extruded sleeve. A large number of alternative protective systems are given.
