Honeycomb shaped catalyst support - to oxidise organic components in gases using element with flow passages at right angles to give heat transfer and catalytic conversion

Gas streams contg. organic materials are treated in catalyst element to oxidise the organics. The element is mounted in a housing with an inlet and outlet branch. The element is formed from a series of flat square plates between which are sandwiched spacers to create a set of flow passages. These passages run parallel to one edge of the square plates and the element is built from alternate layers with the passages at right angles to each other. Thus two sets of passages are created with cross flow contact between them. The surface of the passages are coated with a catalytically active material such as Pt on an Al2O3 support. For removing organic components from gas streams. gives combined heat transfer and oxidn., reducing the space and capital requirement for the plant.
