The hydraulic pump, particularly rotary radial seal strip pump, comprises a pressure relief duct connecting an annular chamber adjacent to the sealing ring around the drive shaft to the suction side of the pump. A pressure limiting valve in this duct is arranged to open in the direction of the pump suction. The valve may be a self-contained insert fitted in the duct and may be adjustable. It may be arranged adjacent to the chamber or adjacent to the pump inlet wth a closable access bore for its adjustment.
