A firearm has a receiver 1, a barrel 2 secured to a forward portion of the receiver and a tubular magazine 3 mounted below the barrel and having a mouth opening into the receiver. A pair of cutoffs 15, 16 are mounted in the receiver, the cut-off 15 being normally spring biased inwardly to block the mouth of the magazine and the cut-off 16 being normally spring biased outwardly clear of the magazine mouth. A pair of slide arms 9, 10 extend into the receiver and are provided with cams 11, 12 which engage with followers 31, 32 formed, on the cut-offs. Rearward movement of the slide arms 9, 10 by the forearm 8 slidably mounted on the magazine first causes cut-off 16 to be cammed inwardly to engage behind the rim of cartridge 4. Further rearward movement causes the cut-off 15 to be cammed outwardly thereby releasing cartridge 4 and allowing it to be fed by a magazine spring into the receiver. The rim of cartridge 5 engages cut-off 16. Forward movement of the slide arms first permits the cut-off 15 to assume its normal position and then permits cut-off 16 to assume its normal position when cartridge 5 moves rearwardly slightly to engage cut-off 15. In semi-automatic and automatic firearms the forearm is fixed to the magazine and a gas piston is provided in front of the magazine tube to perform the function of the forearm.</p> |
