The compact gliding parachute, has the usual rectangular canopy made up of several parallel panels covering aerody namincally profiled dynamic pressure compartments. The side panels (10, 11) of each compartment have a step-down (14) towards the rear in the forward part of the top edge. A forward top panel (15) extends to the top edge (20) of this step. A rear panel (16) runs to the bottom (21) of it, and then continues parallel to the front panel. The gap (23) between the two pref. increases somewhat towards the rear panel leading edge (24). In this way, the parachute has a small packing volume and its design saves material.
