A centre punch (1) for marking hole centre points on workpieces (15) is to be created which is of compact design and can be manipulated easily and reliably. It consists of a steel pin (single-point tool 4) which is provided with a point (2) and is guided on the one side in a centring taper (6) which can be inserted into the open end of the through-hole (17, 19) in one workpiece (16). On the other side, it passes through an aligning bush (7) which is coaxial to the centring taper (6) and arranged at a distance from the latter. It is essential here that the centring taper (6) and the aligning bush (7) are firmly connected to one another, i.e. in one piece, and are displaceably guided together free of play in a casing sleeve (8). The bottom end of the casing sleeve (8) has a stop/locating surface (13) orientated normal to the common longitudinal axis of steel pin or single-point tool (4), centring taper (6) and aligning bush (7). Via the stop/locating surface (13), the centring taper (6) and the aligning bush (7), the steel pin or single-point tool (4) is aligned exactly with the longitudinal axis of the existing through-hole (17) in the workpiece (16) and thus the exactly matching marking of the hole centre points on the other workpiece (15) is ensured. <IMAGE>
