A dual circuit brake booster (1) is proposed in which a conventionally acting pedal locking mechanism is disconnected when the energy supply (13) fails. Simultaneously with this operation a normally open brake circuit, that is one connected to the energy supply, is switched over in such a way that it becomes a closed brake circuit, that is a brake circuit which can be mechanically actuated by the driver's foot. For this switching operation a changeover valve (21) is used, which is fitted with at least two single valves (27, 28) which can be switched in push-pull operation. The dual circuit brake booster (1) can be used preferably in brake systems which are equipped with an antilock device (29). <IMAGE>
