In the case of a fifth wheel coupling (10) in which an actuation rod (34) can be pivoted in a guide slot (38) of the fifth-wheel plate (14) between a coupled-in locked position (unbroken peripheral line) and a coupled-in unlocked position (dotted peripheral line) and in which a securing lever (64) is provided for securing the actuation rod (34) in the coupled-in locked position, it is proposed to secure the actuation lever (34) by virtue of the fact that a blocking component (84) of the securing lever (64) fills in a positively engaging fashion the free pivot space inside the longitudinal slot (38). In order to release the device, the securing lever (64) can be pivoted until the blocking component (84) is received in a lateral recess of the longitudinal slot (34). This securing mechanism also withstands very high displacement forces since the said forces are conducted away directly into the fifth-wheel plate (14) by the blocking component (84). <IMAGE>
