Method and device for splicing two optical fibres (8a, 8b) in an unflexed splice, but using the resilient flexing of the fibre ends to centre the fibres (8a, 8b), in which the fibres (8a, 8b) are inserted into a V-groove of a splicing clamp (5) with a slight mutual separation of their ends obliquely with respect to the base of the groove and are retained by two fibre ferrules (6) in front of the two end faces of the splicing clamp (5), and a jack table (3) which supports the splicing clamp (5) is raised with respect to the fibre ferrules (6) by means of a fine fabric spindle (2) until the two fibre ends abut one another at their end faces, whereupon they are fixed to one another and in the V-groove by bonding, after which the jack table (3) is directly raised further until the fibres (8a, 8b) lie horizontally in the V-groove, the fibre ferrules (6) automatically being opened, and in which the V-groove is subsequently filled with adhesive. The invention is applied in the transmission of signals via optical fibres. <IMAGE>
