The invention relates to an opening and closing device (10) for a tipper truck (22), clamps (12) being arranged at the upper, rear end of both side walls of the loading surface (21), and one end section of a clamp arm (13) in each case being pivotably attached to the end of the clamps (12) and the other end of the clamp arm (13) in each case being pivotably connected to the end of a rear flap arm (17). It is thereby possible, according to the invention, during the unloading of the transported material, such as sand, earth, gravel etc., for the pressure of the sand or earth to be imposed on the rear flap (23) due to the inclination of the loading surface (21), thereby being opened rearwards. The clamp arm (13) and the rear flap arm (17) are simultaneously moved upwards and a centre of rotation of the rear flap arm (17) is likewise moved upwards. The rear flap (23) can accordingly be opened smoothly and the unloading opening is opened further than in conventional embodiments. In this way, it is possible for the loading surface (21) to be tilted rapidly even where large volumes of sand, earth etc. have been loaded onto the tipper truck, and the fact that sand and earth can slide off freely guarantees a reliable unloading operation and greater effectiveness of the latter. The simple and durable construction of the device furthermore allows damage to the opening and closing device for the rear flap to be to a large extent avoided. <IMAGE>
