This piece of furniture is of the type comprising, mounted on a pedestal 2, a base 3 made from three elements articulated with each other and forming, when the piece of furniture is in the seating position, the seat 3a, the back 3b and counter-back 3c respectively of the seat. On the one hand, the elements of the base 3, forming the seat 3a and the back 3b are articulated with each other by the intermediary of an articulation 5 of known type, having three positions, one maximum opening position at 180 DEG , one minimum opening position at approximately 90 DEG from which there is free movement to the previous position and an intermediate opening position of approximately 110 DEG corresponding to the angle formed by the seat 3a and the back 3b in the seating position, with the seat 3a inclined towards the rear and from which it is only possible to move to the position of maximum opening by passing through the minimum opening position and, on the other hand, the ends of the elements of the base 3 which forms the seat 3a and the back 3b, which are articulated to each other are connected to the pedestal 2 by the intermediary of two pairs of small rods 6, 7, while the end of the element forming the counter-back 3c articulated to the element forming the back 3b is connected to an intermediate point 7a of each small rod 7 linking the element forming a back 3b to the pedestal 2, by two rods 8 each of which forms, with the element forming a back 3b and a section of the element forming a counter-back 3c and of the previously mentioned corresponding small rod 7, a deformable quadrilateral. <IMAGE>
