The separator comprises a series of chambers, filled with ferromagnetic packing, through which fluids can be circulated. The chambers are joined by a series of electromagnets, either equal in number to the chambers or a simple multiple thereof, to form a closed loop for the magnetic field. The ends of the electromagnet core pieces are constructed of material exhibiting magnetic hysteresis and are in close contact with the chambers so that the chamber packing remains magnetised after the power is switched off. Reversing polarity of the power supply is required to demagnetise the electromagnets to enable the chambers to be flushed of magnetic pollutants adhering the packing. Used for the removal of ferromagnetic particles from streams of liqs. or gases.
