Folding chair (10) having a foot frame (11) made from a front frame support (15) and a rear frame support (16). A back rest (12) constructed as a two-armed lever is pivoted in a back rest hinge (20) approximately in the middle of the rear frame support (16). The lower back rest lever arm (19) is substantially shorter than the upper back rest lever arm (18). The lower back rest lever arm (19) is connected via an extending supporting hinge (22) to an extending support (13) which is pivotably connected via a folding supporting hinge (22) to a folding support (14) articulated to the front frame support (15). A seat cover (28) is stretched between two cross members (29) between the free end (26) of the folding support (14) and the free end (27) of the back rest (12). This seat cover (28) can be changed in length via a tensioning device (35) or by virtue of an elastic construction of the free ends (26, 27). <IMAGE>
