The invention discloses a device which makes it possible to connect two parts of a shaft together and hold them together without axial displacement during a hydraulic shrinking operation in which a sleeve overlapping the mutually facing ends of the parts of the shaft is slipped on without the hitherto required intermediate sleeve. For this purpose a device is provided which is a part of the assembled shaft and comprises a coupling consisting of a cylindrical slider adjoining which at one end is a threaded bolt with a left-handed thread and, at the other end, a threaded bolt with a right-handed thread, each of which engages in a threaded blindhole in one part of the shaft. Displaceably mounted on the slider and connected non-positively to the latter by corresponding shaping is an actuating disc, on the circumference of which means are provided for the application of a tool which allows it to be rotated. Recesses are furthermore provided in the ends of the two parts of the shaft, the said recesses allowing the slider of the coupling to penetrate partially and having a depth such that the end faces of the two parts of the shaft can come to rest against the actuating disc when they are connected.
