Spectrophotometer having a new design of the wavelength-scanning component. The wavelength-scanning component consists of a lever, a diffraction grating having a rotatable axis to which one end of the lever is connected, a surface of a guide plate, with which the other end of the lever engages, a block on which the guide plate is mounted, and a multiplicity of balls which are introduced tightly between a helical groove in the block and a groove in a conveyor screw which is guided through an internal part of the block. When the conveyor screw is turned, the block moves, as a result of which the diffraction grating is turned at the lever at high speed. Such a spectrophotometer has a high wavelength reproducibility.
