The invention relates to a remote-checking device for documents or objects comprising one or more local stations including a camera viewing the document or the object to be checked, and supplying video signals, and a central checking station equipped with a monitoring cathode ray screen receiving the said video signals. The technical problem posed is of transmitting an image of the document or of the object to be checked, to a central checking station situated at a great distance from the local station. According to the invention, the video signals are transmitted from the local station to the central checking station by means of a slow image transmission equipment 3, 4 comprising a transmitter 3 at the local station and a receiver at the central checking station, the said transmitter and receiver being linked by the telephone network 4.
