On the three legs of a three-leg magnetic core (three-phase core), an exciter winding (18) and two secondary windings (32, 34) are located. The secondary windings (32, 34) are connected in opposite directions in series between an input and an output terminal (10, 14) so that their induced voltages have opposite phases with respect to one another. On the legs (24, 26) carrying the secondary windings (32, 34), control windings (36, 38), through which direct current flows, for generating a premagnetisation of the legs (24, 26) are arranged by means of which the magnetic flux generated by the exciter winding (18) can be displaced towards one or the other leg (24 or 26) so that an alternating voltage is generated predominantly in one or the other secondary winding (32 or 34). The currents through the control windings (36, 38) are controlled via a control error signal. The resultant voltage across the secondary windings (32, 34) corrects the input voltage. In another embodiment, two exciter windings similarly interact with a secondary winding. <IMAGE>
