The invention relates to a device for monitoring the charge of drops of electrostatically charged ink. It consists of a charge detector 100 cooperating with an electronic circuit 12. This detector comprises at least one inner conductive cylinder 3 intended to be connected to an electronic circuit 12 by means of a coaxial wire 11, this inner cylinder 3 being arranged concentrically relative to a hollow outer conductive cylinder 1 connected to earth M, from which it is insulated electrically by means of an insulating sleeve 2. A calibrated slot of width e and of length L is made in such a way that it opens a passage through this detector for the charged drops which, as they pass in front of the inner cylinder 3, induce a signal processed by the electronic circuit 12.
