NEW MATERIAL:An acidic heteropolysaccharide AM-2 having the following physico-chemical properties; (1) consisting of glucose, rhamnose, mannose, glucuronic acid and acetyl groups as main constituent components at 4:(0.9-1.1): (0.9-1.1):(0.9-1.1) ratio between the glucose:rhamnose:mannose:glucuronic acid with 4-8% acetyl group content. (2) color reactions; positive to the anthrone, etc. and negative to the Elson-Morgan reaction. (3) Elementary analysis (%); C, 39.9+ or -1; H, 6.2+ or -1; N, 0; Ash, 3.0+ or -1.0, etc. USE:With high safety and viscosity, and useful as materials for foods, medicines, cosmetics, adhesives, coating agents, additives for drilling mud and petroleum recovering agents in oil fields, etc. PREPARATION:A strain, e.g. Acetobacter MH-1597 (FERM BP-280), belonging to the genus Acetobacter is cultivated preferably at 28-32 deg.C and 5-7pH for 24- 120hr by the shaking culture method, etc. |
