The invention relates to a rig for a sailing craft, with a mast and a sail area producing the propulsion. To increase the propulsion, the sail area is provided with an asymmetric profile and can be tilted and pivoted via the masthead joint. The necessary constructional stability at low weight is obtained by a top and bottom tower part to which stays are attached. In light and favourable winds, auxiliary sails can be run at the end points of the rig. Capsizing in the case of watercraft is prevented by the installation of floating bodies in the hollow space of the profile, and righting is facilitated by means of the tilting rig. For transport or in the event of a storm, the rig can be folded up in a simple manner to form an elongated pack. Higher speeds with simple handling and a high degree of safety are possible with the novel rig. <IMAGE>
