<p>A maintenance response signalling arrangement for a digital transmission system transmits response signals from a repeater (35, 36, 37, 38) to an end terminal (31, 34). From the repeater, response information is modulated onto a subcarrier which is superimposed as a jitter signal on the main data stream.
