A system for treating the gypsum occurring in particular in the flue gas desulphurisation of coal-burning power stations operates with a drier (5) for heating the crude gypsum slurry and for converting it to a dry solid. A filter (11) with separating surfaces is connected downstream of the drier (5). A hot steam circuit (6, 10, 15, 17, 19, 21) for converting the crude gypsum slurry to dry solid in the drier (5) and for calcining the solid in the filter (11) serves for the appropriate treatment. The system has an open-loop control device for controlling the temperature and the residence time of the solid on the separating surfaces of the filter (11). <IMAGE>
