In the process according to the invention the distance between two inspection shafts is measured by the cleaning vehicle, which is equipped for this purpose with an appropriately designed device, driving between them. Thereafter, one inspection shaft is opened and the rinsing hose provided with a nozzle is introduced into the duct through the inspection shaft. The hose, through which high-pressure water flows, is automatically pulled into the duct by the configuration of the nozzle. The length which has been introduced into the duct is likewise measured and, as soon as the length of hose corresponds to the distance between inspection shafts, the direction of movement of the nozzle is reversed by winding up the hose. In this arrangement, it is ensured that the hose has been pulled into the next inspection shaft. After reversing the direction of movement, the measuring device can likewise record the length of hose which has been withdrawn, the associated counter thereby being set to zero when the nozzle is located in the region of the inspection shaft again. Furthermore, the length of duct cleaned in one working day can be determined by adding up the distances. If the cleaning movement of the nozzle is also added up, it can also be established afterwards whether stretches of the duct were rinsed through a number of times.
