PURPOSE:To perform not only work safely in an extremely efficient manner but also accurate measurement, by automatically performing the sampling of a specimen by using a turntable, a lift mechanism, a specimen sampling mechanism and tape like filter paper and measuring radioactive contamination by a radioactive contamination detector. CONSTITUTION:Tape like filter paper 21 passes along the outer periphery of a filter paper pressing roller 47 to receive the adhesion of a thin roll tape 51 and passes through the slit part of a shield body 29 to be successively wound up. A shaking arm 17 revolves toward an article 1 to be examined and the filter paper material part of the tape like filter paper 21 is pressed to the top surface or side surface of the article 1 to be examined under definite pressure by the filter paper pressing roller 47. Subsequently, a turntable 2 is rotated to rub the surface of the article 1 to be examined with the filter paper material 23 under definite pressure. The rotary angle of the turntable 2 is set so that a wipe-off area at every measuring surface becomes constant. The quantity of the radioactive substance adhered to the tape like filter paper is detected by a contamination density detector 28 but reflection type photoelectric switch 26, 30 are opened and contamination at the wiped-off part is detected accurately.
