The present invention: breaks target data down into a plurality of constituent elements; calculates the keyness of the constituent elements, which expresses the degree of deviation in the frequency of appearance thereof in the target data relative to the frequency of appearance thereof in a prescribed reference data set; selects the constituent element among the constituent elements which expresses a characteristic of the target data, on the basis of the calculated keyness of each of the constituent elements; estimates a degree of importance for each data section of the target data, on the basis of the keyness of the selected constituent element; and extracts a data section capable of summarizing the target data, from among the data sections constituting the target data, on the basis of the estimated degree of importance of each data section.
