Bicycle headlamp with inbuilt solar cells - supplying current used to charge battery via diode and limiting resistor

The headlamp (1) consists of a housing (2) with a transparent upper part (3) over a built-in reflector (4). The reflector surfaces have a zig-zag cross-section so that adjacent ridges are at right angles to each other. Below the reflector is the solar cell array. The housing also contains the headlamp filament bulb. The solar cell output is rectified by a single diode and fed via a current-limiting resistance to the re-chargeable battery. The battery can be switched to power the ADVANTAGE : Cheaper than dynamo charging system and does not wear bicycle tyre.
