Hydrocarbon alkylation processes which are catalyzed by acids are promoted by the addition of an alkylation promoter which is a combination of a new carboxylic acid having the structural formula <IMAGE> wherein R, R1 and R2 are alkyl groups and at least one aromatic hydrocarbon sulfonic acid selected from compounds having the structure <IMAGE> wherein R3 is H or an alkyl group and R4 is an alkyl group.
