In the case of a closure for a petrol filler neck 101 of a motor vehicle a hollow cylindrical closing section 102 is factory-fixed on top of the neck, with an inwardly directed threaded collar 121, on which a reduction sleeve (adapter) 104 is screwed in, secured against rotation, for retrofitting where unleaded fuel is to be used. This reduction sleeve (adapter) 104 with an inside diameter at the narrowest point of < 25mm is made in a sheet metal thickness which is selected so that it is smaller than the usual gap between the threaded collar 121 and an outside thread 132 of the cylindrical middle section 131 of a screw-on filler neck cap 103. The screwed-in reduction sleeve (adapter) 104 with a through-hole 144 is firmly seated, secured against rotation, on a pin 112, which is part of an additional venting valve and directed approximately radially inwards in the filler neck. When the filler neck cap 103 is screwed on, this pin 112 is pressed down in an axial direction in order to open the venting valve. <IMAGE>
