In order advantageously to permit the attachment and the use of a canopy and/or tent awning on passenger vehicles, the invention proposes a rail which is fastened on a conventional roof carrier, performs the retaining function for the tarpaulin in conjunction with drainage, has cutouts for pushing in and clamping all necessary function and securing elements, constitutes the mounting base for the pole/bracing arrangements, serves, during travel, as a transporting container for poles and tarpaulin, and permits a canopy to be erected both, as is usual, in the ground and also exclusively on the vehicle.
