PURPOSE:To improve the controllability of a rotating speed detector by deciding a rotary body rotates by a 1/n rotational angle according to an alternating signal which is outputted by a rotary sensor and has a period equal to the rotation time of the unit rotational angle of the rotary body and a reference signal determined at each 1/n period obtained by dividing said period equally by (n), and calculating the rotating speed of the 1/n rotational angle. CONSTITUTION:For example, a traction controller for a vehicle is constituted by providing an electronic controller (ECU) 10 with an electromagnetic pickup 51 which is a signal rotor having 60 projections on its entire periphery and generates an AC current at intervals of a 6 deg. rotational angle. Further, the ECU 10 is provided with an arithmetic means which calculates the rotating speed of the 1/n rotational angle obtained by dividing the unit angle of each period equally by (n). Then the ECU 10 controls the output of an engine through the throttle actuator 35 of a power system and applies a braking force to wheels through a brake actuator 46 to suppress the idling of the wheels. Thus, a wheel speed in a transient state can be detected at a short period and the controllability is improved.
