PURPOSE:To obtain a rubber composition excellent in strength, dynamic fatigue resistance, oil resistance, heat resistance, etc., by mixing a specified nitrile rubber of a specified iodine value or lower with an oxide of a Group II metal of the periodic table and additives such as a vulcanizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A nitrile rubber of an iodine value <=100 is produced by using 10-60wt.% unsaturated nitrile (e.g., acrylonitrile), 0.1-15wt.% ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g., acrylic acid) and the balance of a conjugated diene (e.g., butadiene) and a hydrogenated conjugated diene as starting materials. This nitrile rubber is mixed with an oxide of a Group II metal of the periodic table (e.g., zinc oxide or magnesium oxide), a vulcanizing agent (e.g., sulfur) and other additives to obtain the purpose rubber composition. This rubber composition can be suitably used for belts which are constantly subjected to deformation, especially, V-belts of automobiles, etc.
