PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacture of a magnetic head and to prevent a yield from being lowered due to the breakdown of a core, by setting the maximum distances of the outer edges of erasing cores so as not to exceed the maximum distance of the outer edge of a recording and reproducing head. CONSTITUTION:A cutting groove 1b provided on both side planes of the recording and reproducing core 1 and a pair of erasing cores 2 arranged in the cutting groove 1b are provided, and the maximum distances of the outer edges of the pair of erasing cores 2 in a direction at right angles to the traveling plane of a medium is set less than the maximum distance of the outer edge of the recording and reproducing core 1 in a direction perpendicular to the traveling plane of the medium. Also, a cutting groove 3a to insert the core and a window 3b to bring the core into contact with a medium plane are provided at a fixed frame 3 made of ceramics. In such a way, assembling work can be facilitated, and the lowering of the yield due to the breakdown of the core can be prevented from being generated.
