Facing slabs can be suspended on transverse struts or the like by means of shackles attached to their rear side. In the process, the shackles, which can be produced from angled flat steel, have to be securely fastened to the rear side of the facing slab. A secure fastening of the shackles to thin-walled facing slabs is achieved by using a fastening element which possesses an expanding member. The expanding member engages in a blind bore provided on the rear side of the facing slab and is clamped therein. The shackle is secured by means of a retaining cap engaging over the expanding member.
