A process for regenerating a particulate catalyst by (a) passing the used catalyst into a regeneration zone, (b) contacting the catalyst with an oxygen-contg. gas stream in a combustion zone, (c) passing a low carbon catalyst downward through a temp. adjustment zone, (d) passing the catalyst downward through a drying zone, (e) compressing at least a major portion of the combustion gas stream to produce a first process gas stream, (f) passing a first portion of the first stream into the temp. adjustment zone, and (g) cooling a second portion of the first stream and passing it into the combustion zone.
