PROCESS FOR WORKING UP METAL SULPHATE MIXTURES CONTAINING FERROUS SULPHATE

The metal sulphate mixtures formed in the concentrating of metal sulphate-containing dilute sulphuric acid solutions up to an H2SO4 concentration of 50 to 75 per cent by weight are usually cleaved thermally. In the event of production problems, it is necessary to interrupt the cleavage of the metal sulphate mixture and to dispose of the metal sulphate mixture. For this purpose, soluble components have to be made insoluble. The known mashing using water and adding calcium oxide leads to long reaction times which makes it difficult to operate continuously. It is desired to reduce the reaction time. The calcium oxide is used in finely divided form and the water in an amount of 70 to 90 g per 100 g of metal sulphate mixture. All three components are introduced simultaneously separately into a mixing zone, in which a liquid reaction mixture is formed, while the reaction is completed outside the mixing zone with solidification. The reaction takes place very rapidly within 1 to 2 minutes. A bulk material is produced which is stable on storage and contains only very few soluble components.
