A computer aided design system comprises two operating modes, an object entry mode and a retrieval mode. In object entry mode, the user may enter certain commands to create a graphical model of an object with fix, variable or flexible dimensions. These dimensions as well as information about the commands and their input order are recorded for further processing. In retrieval mode, all variable dimensions are replaced by actual values, and an actual object, the so-called variant, is generated. This generation is performed in the same order as the user entered his commands in object entry mode. The restrictions, e.g. "horizontal line", associated with several keys are also recorded, either directly or via a key or command code, and used to complete the variant. This computer aided design system and its method of operating are particularly suited for the creation of part families.
|
