The invention relates to a method for preparing a silica- and carbon-containing mixture of carbon and silica, obtained by reaction of SiF6 ions and NH4 ions, a silica- containing precipitate being formed and said precipitate being separated, characterized in that the reaction is brought about in a medium which contains carbon particles having a particle size of less than 0.1 mm. The invention further relates to the use of such mixtures in the preparation of silicon-containing materials via carbothermic reduction processes.
