In a winding appratus with a rotary drive (1) about an axis of rotation, with a machine control, with a workpiece-clamping device (4), with a thread-feed device (3) and with an annular thread eye (2) which is arranged coaxially relative to the axis of rotation and concentrically surrounds a workpiece (6) and which receives from the thread-feed device (3) a plurality of winding threads (30) which run radially and tangentially onto the workpiece (6) in a manner distributed uniformly on the circumference of the annular thread eye (2), the winding of the workpiece (6) taking place by means of a simultaneously translational and rotational relative movement between the annular thread eye (2) and the workpiece (6), provision is made for the rotary drive (1) to drive the annular thread eye (2) in rotation jointly with the thread-feed device (3), for the workpiece-clamping device (4) to consist of a multi-axially controlled arm (5), on which the workpiece (6) is clamped in on one side, and for the arm (5) to move the workpiece (6), during winding, in the winding plane, coaxially relatively to the axis of rotation, on a path determined by the spatial curvature of the main axis of the workpiece. <IMAGE>
