<p>A rotary head for scanning the surface of elongated material (62) to be tested using eddy current generators (60) is also fitted with means for magnetising the material (62) in a predetermined test area. This opens new fields of application for the testing of metallic material (62) to be tested by means of rotary generators (60), e.g. the sensitive testing of unpolished ferromagnetic rods and wires, testing for indistinct cracking with closed surfaces above the point of separation of the material or the testing of welded austenitic tubes. During magnetisation, parts of the housing (10) and a rotating hollow shaft (40) are used to conduct the magnetic flux further and special steps are taken to make the magnetic field uniform in the test region.</p> |
